SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA, September 8, 2022 – Which restaurant and bar can represent Seoul, a city of gastronomy? The Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) announced this year’s 100 Taste of Seoul, a list of the 100 best restaurants and bars recommended by Korean and international gastronomes. The city government prepared the list to introduce the city’s colorful food culture. Since 2020, the 100 Taste of Seoul has selected quality eating and drinking places, focusing on the taste of the city.

Chefs of the restaurants named in 100 Taste of Seoul for three years in a row.

The assessment criteria of the 100 Taste of Seoul 2022 centered on discovering and nurturing Seoul’s unique gourmet content by delivering values, such as glocalism (globalization + localization), virality, and professionality.

This year’s 100 Taste of Seoul has seven food categories: Korean (23 places), Western (26), Asian (10), Grill (8), Plant-based (9), Café & Dessert (11), and Bar & Pub (13). Notable places included in the list are Nam Do Jecheol (Korean), Gucci Osteria Seoul (Western), Gaehanggak (Asian), Namyeongdon (Grill), Forest Kitchen (Plant-based), Atelier Pond (Café & Dessert), Seoul Gypsy (Bar & Pub), and Vingle (Bar & Pub).

Forty-one restaurants and bars were honored to be selected on the list for three consecutive years—Gaon, Mingles, Joo Ok, ONJIUM, JUNGSIKDANG (Korean), MOSU, ZERO COMPLEX (Western), JinJin (Asia), and Gold Pig Restaurant (Grill), to name a few.

Particularly for this year, Seoul announces the 50 best plant-based restaurants in addition to the 100 Taste of Seoul. Since the vegetarian diet is trending in the global culinary tourism sector and Seoul has a long history of traditional food and Buddhist temple dishes, restaurants on the list are expected to receive much love from citizens and tourists.

The SMG will publish the 100 Taste of Seoul as Seoul Gourmet Guide in Korean and English. The guide will be distributed to each restaurant, Embassy, tourist information center, hotel, and Korean Culture Center. The guide will also be sold outside of Korea and available both online and offline. Selected dining rooms and bars are also reachable on Catchtable, the restaurant reservation application. In addition, English reservation services will be provided for foreign guests.

The Taste of Seoul, held for the third time this year, will also be available as offline events from Friday, Sept 30 to Thursday, Oct 6. Due to the pandemic, the event was held online over the past two years. Therefore, to celebrate the long-awaited offline event, Seoul prepared various programs for the week.

Seoul Restaurant Week (tasty encounter with SMG’s special menu), Seoul Market Dining (tasty encounter of traditional markets and hip places), Seoul Marché (tasty encounter of the city and farmers), Seoul Food Cinema (tasty encounter of gastronomy and cinema), Seoul Sool Class (tasty encounter with traditional alcoholic drinks), and Grand Gala Dinner (tasty encounter with international chefs and Seoul’s chefs) are ready.

Seoul has a food culture where the tradition and modernity harmonize, and this unique culture is connecting Korea and the world,” said Choi Kyung-Ju, Director General of Tourism & Sports Bureau. “Through the Taste of Seoul 100, the SMG will upgrade Seoul’s charm and promote our classy and global gastronomic culture to global food explorers and tourists.”
